Résumé : |
"Eryngium viviparum is a very rare species with a fragmented distribution between the NW of the Iberian peninsula and Brittany. In France, the species is only maintained in one locality, thanks to management efforts. The plant is currently included in a National Action Plan that encompasses reintroductions into restored and ecologically favorable historic locations.
In 2015, an experimental reintroduction study had been implemented in order to define the optimal establishment method in relation to site ecological factors. The period of implantation, the demographic stage of introduced individuals and local conditions, including microtopography, were tested. Population dynamic was evaluated during the two first years, through the observation of survival rates and the establishment of a new generation.
The introduced seeds showed very low germination rates for both sites whereas contrasted results were obtained with adult transplantations. Survival rates appeared to be influenced by the microtopography but not by the season of transplantation. The establishment of a new generation has been observed, leading to the increase of the population size on both sites. The results of this experiment demonstrate that the reestablishment of Eryngium viviparum’ populations in restored sites may encourage the reintroduction of the species on a larger scale." |
