"Since 1959 observations , are made on the ,heatland vegetations of the Netherlands and other western european countries from South-Norway to North-Portugal and from Ireland to west-Germany.
In this paper will be provisionally reported on results based on 150U phytosociological relevés from the author and 25 students of Utrecht University who worked under his supervision. Data on coastal heaths are not included.
All heathland communities in the Netherlands have the following 13 species in common : Calluna vulgari, Erica tetralix, Hypnum cupressiforme var., ericetorum, Cladonia impexa, Cl. Pyxidata var. chlorophaea, Pohlia nutans, Parmelia physodes, Cephalosiella strakei, Polytrichum commune var. perogoniale, Campolypus gragilis, C. flexuosus, Pleurosium schreberi, Dicranum polysetum."
