"Taxonomic and nomenclatural consequences of the author's recent generic conspectus of the Compositae-Senecioneae are presented. The novel taxonomy is based on a syndrome of primarily morphological and anatomical characters, including such of endothecial tissue, filament collars, ovary crystals and ligule epidermis. The systematics of several reinstated genera are reviewed, viz., Pericallis D. Don in Sweet, Cacaliopsis A. Gray, Pladaroxylon Hook. fil., Lachanodes DC., Dorobaea Cass. and Scrobicaria Cass. The taxonomy of Sinacalia Robinson & Brettell and Chersodoma Phil. emend. Cabr. is discussed. In the latter the new subgenus Diclinanthus B. Nord. is proposed. The concepts of Brachyglottis J. R. & G. Forst. and Aetheolaena Cass. are amended to comprise 29 and 19 species, respectively. Dendrosenecio (Hauman ex Hedb.) B. Nord. and Nemosenecio (Kitam.) B. Nord. are new genera, elevated from the ranks of subgenus and section, respectively. Although the section Bethencourtii DC. of Senecio is not accepted as a genus, its nomenclatural standing is elucidated. Thirteen new genera are described, viz., Odontocline, Urostemon, Dolichoglottis, Lordhowea, Sinosenecio, Graphistylis, Iocenes, Aequatorium, Jacmaia, Phaneroglossa, Notoniopsis, Stenops and Xyridopsis. New species are Aequatorium asterotrichum, Nemosenecio yunnanensis and Stenops helodes. Tephroseris changii, Senecio handelianus and Xyridopsis welwitschii are nomina nova. The new name Pericallis hybrida is proposed for the florists' 'cineraria'. About 175 new combinations in 22 genera are also published." (source : auteur) |
