"Scattered amongst coastal sand dunes situated near Merlimont (Pas-de- Calais) exist some moist hollows called PANNES (a flemish name). Their conspicuous vegetation bas been carefully studied; indeed several communities rise gradually one above the other.
The pionneer vegetation of these hollows seems to be either a community of Liverworts (such as Riccia cavernosa) or the Caricetum trinervis, superposed on a dense and continuous carpet of Charophycées.
Actually, the lowest part of these "slacks" is covered by the Samolo-Litorelletum whilst the periphery of them see the optimum development of Ana- gallis tenella and Parnassia palustris. Must be placed that community in the new alliance Anagallido-Juncion recently identified by Dr. J. BRAUN-BLANQUET? a hem where is predominant Blackstonia perfoliata assure a transition between the herbaceous vegetation and the pionneercopsewoods of Salix dunensis and Hippophae rhamnoides.
At last the Centaurio-Saginetum monilifor.mis is a transitionnal commu- nity situated just at the margin of dune slacks (already on a dry sand). FREIJSEN who bas carefully studied it write : "the distribution of C. vulgare depends on the phreatic level and its fluctuations". The ecology of these sociations (all of them become scarce) has also been studied (pH, humidity)." (source : auteur) |
