New classification should be based mainly on the differences in management intensity rather than in management practice. Consequently, nutrient‐poor extensive pastures, which currently are not considered in the European Habitats Directive, should receive the same conservation attention as low‐intensive hay meadows, because both types of vegetation can be equally species‐rich and do not differ substantially in floristic composition from each other." Despite the weak correlation between individual fidelity values, traditional (non-statistical) and statistical measures produce quite similar lists of diagnostic species, provided that the context of the analysis is the same. Both approaches have their advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of the appropriate algorithm should depend on the focus of the study." The edition consists of 14 Definitions, 7 Principles, 53 Articles, and 7 Appendices. When compared with the previous edition, the main amendments are: (a) the acceptance of electronic publications (Art. 1); (b) the introduction of binding decisions (Definition XIV, Principle II, Articles 1, 2b, 3c, 29b, 40, 42, 44, Appendices 6 and 7); (c) the mandatory use of the English or Latin terminology for syntaxonomic novelties (Definition II, Principle II, Articles 3d and 3i); (d) the introduction of autonyms for the main ranks when the corresponding secondary ranks are created (Articles 13b and 24); (e) the automatic correction of the taxon names (name-giving taxa) used in the names of syntaxa in accordance with the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN) (Article 44); (f) the possibility to mutate the name of a syntaxon in using other correct, alternative names for the name-giving taxa (Article 45); (g) the introduction of inadequate names, a new category of rejected names (Definition V, Articles 43 through 45); and (h) the introduction of a conserved type (Definition XIII, Article 53). The fourth edition of ICPN was approved by the GPN on 25 May 2019 and becomes effectively binding on 1 January 2021." Titre : Syntaxonomische Revision der sudmitteleuropaischen Buchenwalder Titre original : Syntaxonomical revision of the beech forests of southern Central Europe Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Wolfgang Willner, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : pp. 337-453 Langues : Allemand (ger) Catégories : [habitats/milieux] 4 - Forêts Mots-clés : phytosociologie classification syntaxonomie Résumé : "For beech forests of Central Europe (including the Illyrian region) a great number of different and more or less incompatible classification approaches can be found. In order to critically revise the syntaxonomy of Central European beech forests, a TWINSPAN analysis of 5815 relevés from all over the area (mostly compiled from literature) was made. The result corresponds with the classical conception of three main groups of beech forests: 1. thermophilous beech forests (Cephalanthero-Fagion), 2. mesophilous beech forests (Asperulo-Fagion) and 3. acidophilous beech forests (Luzulo-Fagion). Each of these groups can be further divided according to altitudinal, edaphic and geographic gradients. In the study area 25 associations are distiguished. Their floristical characteristics, site conditions and distribution are described in detail. The nomenclature of all syntaxa is discussed and revised. Regarding syntaxa above association level six suballiances are suggested two within thermophilous beech forests (Cephalanthero-Fagenion, Ostryo-Fagenion), three within mesophilous beech forests (Eu-Fagenion, Lamio orvalae-Fagenion, Lonicero alpigenae-Fagenion) and one within acidophilous beech forests (Luzulo-Fagenion). Alliances based only on geography, containing a multitude of ecological types of beech forests, do not well reflect the floristic patterns and should be abandoned."
