[Espèces (in biblio)] Ficaria vernaMots-clés : génome cytométrie évolution Résumé : "The genus Ficaria is now considered to comprize eight Eurasian species. The most widespread European species is the tetraploid F. verna Huds. The present study provides evidence for the existence of two main lineages of F. verna that differ considerably in their genome size by about 3 pg. A Western F. verna lineage west of river Rhine displays a mean genome size (2C-value) of 34.2 pg and is almost precisely codistributed with the diploid F. ambigua Boreau (20 pg) north of the Mediterranean. The remaining part of Europe appears to be occupied by the Eastern F. verna lineage solely (mean genome size of 31.3 pg) which codistributes in South-Eastern Europe with the diploid F. calthifolia Rchb. (15 pg). There is little overlap at the boundary of Western and Eastern F. verna lineages with the occurrence of a separate intermediate group in the Netherlands (mean genome size of 33.2 pg) that appears to result from hybridization of both lineages. On the basis of these observations and further considerations we propose development of F. ambigua and F. calthifolia south of the Alps with subsequent divergence to populate their current Western and Eastern European ranges, respectively. The Western F. verna lineage is proposed to originate from autotetraploidization of F. ambigua (precursor) with moderate genome downsizing and the Eastern F. verna lineage from auto¬tetraploidization of F. calthifolia (precursor)." [Thèmes] TaxonomieMots-clés : Ficaria × sellii bulbille cytométrie hybridation morphométrie phénologie viabilité du pollen polyploïdie Résumé : "The genusFicariais a taxonomically intricate group in which polyploidization and hybridizationcontribute to taxa diversification. Incentral Europe, populations of diploidF. calthifoliaandtetraploidF. vernasubsp.vernaoccasionally come into contact, which results in an interspecifictriploid hybrid, as recently demonstrated using molecular markers, genome size estimation andexperimental crossing. In this study, we aimedto estimate the frequency and distribution of thetriploid hybrid in central Europe, to identify those phenotypic traits that can be used to discrimi-nate between hybrid and parental taxa and compare the phenology, pollen viability, sexual andasexual reproduction and niche differentiation of the triploid hybrid and parental taxa. Flow-cytometry analyses of 1171 individuals sampledfrom 67 localities revealed that triploid hybridswere regularly found at 89% of the sites sampled where there were sympatric populations of bothparental taxa, with a mean percentage of 19.4% occurring at sites where there was a mixture ofcytotypes. No pure hybrid population was found. The hybrids were intermediate between theparental taxa in most morphological characters and did not show any novel morphological charac-ters. The characters that best differentiate the taxonomic groups were the production of axillarybulbils, aborted and well-developed achenes, leaf shape and plant habit. Almost all hybrids weresexually sterile: the pollen viability was considerably reduced (mean 8.4%) and on average 98%of the achenes were aborted. Local dispersal of the hybrids is possible through the production ofbulbils in the leaf axils, although the number of bulbils per node and the mean weight of one bulbilwere two and three times lower in the hybrid than inF. vernasubsp.verna.The hybrid niche wasintermediate between those of the parental taxa but shifted slightly towards that ofF. vernasubsp.verna. In addition, the taxonomic and nomenclatural treatment of the hybrid, which is describedasFicaria×selliiDuchoslav, Popelka et Trávn., as well as a key for identifying the central Euro-pean taxa ofFicaria, are presented." [Espèces (in biblio)] Ficaria vernaMots-clés : horticulture plante échappée archéophyte Résumé : "The distributions of the subspecies of Ficaria verna Huds. are under-recorded in Britain, but published county Floras indicate that subsp. verna is an introduction in some areas and is increasing in many areas. This evidence is examined and a hypothesis to account for the observed patterns is tested against an analogy with Allium paradoxum (M. Bieb.) G. Don in Berwickshire where the author has personally observed colonisation over forty years. The results suggest a link between the recent increase in Ficaria verna subsp. verna and the nineteenth century expansion of the horticultural trade. Earlier waves of colonisation are suspected but not substantiated."
