"Spore samples from herbarium specimens of A. adiantum-nigrum L. s. s. and A. onopteris L. were measured. Difference in spore length clearly discriminates between the 2 spp. Means based on samples of 50 spores vary from 28.9 .+-. 1.3 .mu.m to 32.4 .+-. 2.2 .mu.m, with a range of 25-39 .mu.m in A. onopteris, and from 39.2 .+-. 2.4 .mu.m to 41.9 .+-. 3.0 .mu.m, with a range of 32-52 .mu.m in A. adiantum-nigrum. For identification purposes a sample of 10 spores was found sufficient to give reliable discrimination." (source : auteur) |
